Matthew "Matt" Spector, MD, FACS

Matthew E Spector, MD, FACS completed his medical school training at Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University in Chicago.  He then went on to the University of Michigan where he completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction.   He was on faculty at the University of Michigan for 10 years where he served as the Director of the Head and Neck Oncology Program and Associate Director of the Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction Fellowship. 

 

Dr. Spector specializes in all aspects of extirpative head and neck surgical oncology and head and neck reconstruction including Oral Cavity Cancer, Laryngeal Cancer/Tumors (open and endoscopic), Oropharyngeal Cancer/Tumors, Head and Neck Cutaneous Malignancy, Benign and Malignant Tumors of the Paranasal Sinuses/Anterior Skull Base, Salivary Gland Malignancy, Clinical Trials in Head and Neck Cancer, Transoral Robotic Surgery, Head and Neck Local Flaps, Regional Flaps and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery.

 

Dr. Spector’s research interests relate to both clinical and translational questions in head and neck oncology and head and neck reconstruction. He is primarily interested in improving the overall survival of patients with head and neck cancer through outcomes research to improve patient selection and prediction of response to therapy. He has significant experience in the design, management and completion of biomarker based experiments to assess predictors of recurrence in head and neck cancer.
